We have a right to know

cfs_logo.gif We the people have a right to know where our food comes from — and what’s in it. Now, let’s make sure it’s law. If you agree, please see the Center for Food Safety’s site to sign your name to an online petition.

Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) recently introduced two bills related to GE crops and foods in the House of Representatives. One bill, HR 5269, The Genetically Engineered Food Right to Know Act of 2006, would require mandatory labeling of all GE foods; the other, HR 5268, The Genetically Engineered Food Safety Act, would require mandatory, pre-market safety testing of GE foods.

Take Action Now! Tell congress to support labeling and safety testing of GE foods! Contact your Representative and ask them to co-sponsor and support HR 5268 and HR 5269! (By the way, the Center for Food Safety’s petition will automatically locate your representative for you.)

Here’s an excerpt:

While the rest of the world is rejecting these risky, untested foods, FDA’s unscientific approach is making American consumers the world’s guinea pigs in this genetic food experiment… Americans deserve the right to know what’s in their food. FDA must stop playing politics and start developing a science-based policy to protect Americans from these risky foods.

The choice should be ours — not the government’s, not the FDA’s, and definitely not Monsanto’s.
