Here is what we are reading as we mourn Argentina’s loss to Germany:

Washington Post: Heavy rains and flood deliver terrible blow to Eastern Shore farmers’ livelihoods, including drowning tens of thousands of chickens in closed coops. (DQ editorializing: Why didn’t they open the doors, I wonder? They would have floated….I find this unbearably sad.)

People magazine: Ethicurean heroine Daryl Hannah tells why she was arrested protesting the destruction of South Central Farm.

KATC TV: Louisiana native plans to bring State from “25 years behind” the organic movement with a 330 acre co-op organic farm.

Henry Daily Herald: A profile of the only all-organic farm in Henry County, outside of Atlanta.

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: Former Whole Foods employee launches a virtual farmer’s market.

Chicago Tribune (free registration required): The USDA announced that it is weighing a “grass fed” label for beef. To get it, cattle would have to be fed a diet of 99 percent grass or other forages.

San Luis Obispo Tribune: Central Coast cattle ranchers are seeing the appeal of switching to grass fed.
