The Motley Fool*: Investment website provides interesting take on the Whole Food announcement, saying move to support small farmers is good for the company’s stock price, as it will provide a competitive edge against Wal-Mart and Safeway moving into organic niche.

Oakland Tribune: A review of a new organic beer, Butte Creek Brewing Co. Organic Revolution X’s 10th Anniversary Imperial India Pale Ale. Sounds tasty.

Toronto Globe and Mail: Canada has its sixth confirmed case of mad-cow disease. Nobody’s too alarmed, apparently, because this cow was 15 years old — old enough to have eaten the now-banned feed. The United States has had three documented cases.

Bloomberg News Canada: Researchers are closing in on a test for mad-cow disease in humans.

New York Times**: Atlanta chef Anne Quatrano bought 80 chickens to raise for food, but couldn’t kill them. (Thanks for the tip, Holly!) Their farm also has Jersey milking cows, goats and two pigs, “one of which is named Hamlet, or Hammie for short.”
