Toronto Globe and Mail: Canada has its sixth confirmed case of mad-cow disease. Nobody's too alarmed, apparently, because this cow was 15 years old — old enough to have eaten the now-banned feed. The United States has had three documented cases.

New York Times**: Atlanta chef Anne Quatrano bought 80 chickens to raise for food, but couldn't kill them. (Thanks for the tip, Holly!) Their farm also has Jersey milking cows, goats and two pigs, "one of which is named Hamlet, or Hammie for short."
