Seattle P-I: Bob Condor ruminates on recent studies about the number of calories Americans consume at fast food restaurants, the difficulty of getting fifth graders to eat vegetables, and that children may need to sample a new vegetable 20 times before liking it.

San Francisco Chronicle: Lazarus considers the negative implications of Chevron’s latest oil discovery in the Gulf of Mexico. Americans may well view the find as a justification to abandon conservation practices, even though the oil deposit would supply less than 3% of current consumption.

Eureka Alert/Ohio University: Ohio University scientists have taken chlorophyll-a from spinach and figured out how to manipulate the molecule, turning it into a complex biological switch. The development may lead to applications in green energy and other areas.
