Spinach Update:
AP and L. A. Times/Seattle Times: This isn’t the first outbreak of E. Coli related to spinach. Since 1995, the FDA has tracked 19 other outbreaks traced to spinach and lettuce, including greens from the Salinas Valley.
Food and Drug Administration: Spinach has been added to the FDA’s Lettuce Safety Initiative, which focuses on reducing public health risks by documenting and alerting consumers to infectious outbreaks related to leafy greens.
L.A. Times: The financial impacts of the E. Coli outbreak may drive some Salinas Valley growers out of business.
