Grist: Regular readers probably guessed that we were waiting for Tom Philpott to weigh in on the industrial food system’s spin on the spinach outbreak. Alex Avery, of the Hudson Institute is shoveling manure into the debate, and Philpott takes them to task. Surprisingly, Avery already has commented on Philpott’s post with further lies, ignoring reports that the E. coli outbreak is due to contaminated conventional spinach and placing the blame incorrectly on organic spinach.

Southeast Farm Press: A Carolina farmer reports on the problem of weeds becoming resistant to herbicides. He doesn’t offer an alternative to herbicides, but points out that farmers can expect weeds to become more and more resistant to herbicides and herbicide cocktails.

Grist: A brief history of the original Green Revolution, coupled with an analysis of why the New Green Revolution forwarded by the Gates Foundation may not be met with open arms.
