Daily Telegraph: Scientists have found that stomach bacteria may affect weight gain, by impacting how many calories are derived from a food item. One person may extract more calories thanks to the bacteria.

San Francisco Chronicle: California’s Assembly is considering a ban on the use of trans fats in restaurants and cafeterias.

Independent Online: The H5N1 strain of bird flu has appeared in chickens and ducklings in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta for the first time since August. Officials worry that complacency about bird flu will coincide with increased poultry consumption leading up to Lunar New Year, and result in human infections.

Fox News: Levis and other manufacturers are hopping onto the organic clothing train, which is good news for the environment. Cotton requires quantities of fertilizers, pesticides and water that is incredibly destructive, as witnessed by the decimation of the Aral Sea.
