Digest - Commentary: Corn regicide, Farm Bill op-eds preaching to deaf ears

by @ 2:40 am on 25 October 2007.

So which part isn’t true?: Gary Truitt, president and founder of Hoosier Ag Today, says he no likey "King Corn" — that "politically motivated slander film." Kurt Michael Friese, the "belly of the beast" Iowa chef who you may remember from Grist’s So What series, has a post on Edible Nation that sheds a little light on where Mr. Truitt is coming from.

Why would senators listen to city folk?: We’re stealing this list of Farm Bill editorials — at the Washington Post, New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Des Moines Register, Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Washington Times — from Blog for Rural America’s Dan Owens, who reports they all say basically, We must reform farm subsidies to meet needs X, Y, and Z. (We confess we were too depressed to actually read them ourselves. What’s the point?) NPR tells us Why You Should Care About the Farm Bill — but truth is, we should all have cared a lot louder when we were electing these political panderers.
