It’s hard to believe a year has gone by already, but once again, we’ve been nominated for Best Food Blog - Group in the Well Fed Network’s Food Blog Awards. (A big bone-crushing virtual hug to readers Tammy, ExpatChef, Shuna, and Gloria for nominating us!) Last year we’d only been blogging for about six months, and we were as giddy as geeks in the running for Homecoming Queen. I can remember refreshing the poll results maniacally until it became bitterly obvious we would be eviscerated by Slashfood. This year, they’re not displaying the totals in real time, which should prevent us from begging our mothers to drive around and vote from as many IP locations as possible on the last day.
Voting is open until 11:59 p.m. Friday, December 14. Once again, we’re up against Slashfood, along with our email pals at Cookthink, the learned chefs at Ideas in Food, and the pro foodies at Serious Eats. Realistically, we have about as much chance of winning as Paula Deen becoming vegan, but we do feel warm and fuzzy to be nominated.
Well, warm and fuzzy — and nauseated. Why? Because look over to your right to see what exciting prize awaits the Best Group Food Blog. Why golly, it’s an assortment of branded items from that aforementioned butter-loving celebrity chef! The one who claims her generous sponsor, Smithfield Foods — you know, that worker-mistreating, massively polluting, hog-oppressing Death Star of Pork — represents her "family values." Hey, if by some miracle we win, we’ll let YOU decide what to do with this basket of treats.
And while you’re over at Well Fed, why not help our friends at Eat Local Challenge take home Food Blog of the Year or Best Theme Blog, to add to their locavore linguistic laurels?
A big congrats to our blogging friends and Internet buddies nominated in the other categories: triple-threat Shuna of Eggbeater (Industry; Chef; Best Post); Guy at Meathenge (Theme); Tyler aka Dr. Vino (Drinks); Parke Wilde at U.S. Food Policy (Industry); Sam of Becks & Posh (City, Photography); the hilarious Tammy of Food on the Food (Family & Kids; Humor); and Anita and Cameron at Married with Dinner (Drinks).

Bummer that you didn’t win. But you didn’t win Paula Deen, so that’s something. I, however, am super-pissed I didn’t get that box of QuickSeals I had my eye on.

Thanks Tammy. I knew we’d never beat the Serious Eats machine, but you were robbed, I tell you! Mostly I am bummed that I didn’t get to conduct my science experiments with Paula’s no doubt HFCS-heavy BBQ sauce.
