Digest - Blogs: Hillary’s in bed with Big Meat — and we don’t mean Bill

by @ 12:05 am on 13 December 2007.

Scraping the bottom of pork-barrel politics: Tom Philpott reports that Hillary Clinton’s campaign has named Joy Philippi, the former president of the National Pork Producers Council — that would be the main trade group representing CAFO operators — as co-chair of Rural Americans for Hillary. Sickening. (Gristmill)

From animal to meat: Really thought-provoking batch of posts over at the Jew and the Carrot, about a schecting (ritual kosher slaughter) of two goats that a community of ethical Jewish eaters organized to better understand the process. Here are posts about the slaughter, butchering, and the emotions aroused.

Hip to be locavore: This new-to-us blog wants to "honor the people who have inspired out palettes [sic] and our keyboards." Among the nominees for its First Annual Endless Simmer Eater of the Year Award are "the quartet of Bay Area hippies" known as the Locavores. We wouldn’t call them hippies, but we would (and have) voted for them. (Endless Simmer)

And a rich man with a sub-sidyyyyy…: Erin Rosas has penned the delightful "Twelve Days of Agribusiness." Sing along now! (Growers and Grocers)

Yes, Hilary is clearly not the candidate of choice for the sustainable food movement.
