Update on former South Central Garden farmers
Good Food for Ethicurean ears: While catching up on our podcast listening today, we discovered the August 1 Good Food show had an interview with one of the people who was farming at the now-destroyed South Central Garden in Los Angeles [background post]. Some of the farmers obtained land near Bakersfield, over 100 miles to the north. Since then, they have formed a cooperative and are seeing some success: they farm 80 acres, sell at farmers markets all over L.A., and have a CSA. The episode also has a segment with "Farm City" author Novella Carpenter about her farm in Oakland and one with New York Times Minimalist Mark Bittman about his new eating philosophy. (Good Food)
