The USDA stops collecting data on pesticide use. Meanwhile, researchers in India link pesticides to altered DNA and the German government blames pesticides for bee colony collapse. But no worries — just don’t think about it.

In-depth, offbeat, or thought-provoking features about aspects of SOLE food, from eating locally to farms marketing to methods of food preservation.
Our friend Derrick sends us this "unicorn chaser" for a very disappointing week: a Tourettes-ing Rowan Atkinson and a baby-faced John Cleese in a silly skit. Why is it Ethicurean-worthy? Well, it’s nominally (ssst!) about beekeeping … and life (waack!).

Naming names and kicking ass: The Environmental Working Group will unveil its new 2007 Farm Bill Database of agricultural subsidy recipients at noon tomorrow, June 12. Watch for the link from EWG Prez Ken Cook’s blog, Mulch.

While we think these are valuable things to know, we don’t need more packaging, period. (Statesman/AP)
NEWSU.S. FDA head very glad he is not Chinese: China has sentenced the former head of its food and drugs agency to death for corruption. The sentence, which could still be reduced on appeal, reflects the weight China’s top leaders are giving to the issues of corruption and food safety as they grapple with the fallout overseas after a series of safety breaches involving toxins in food and other products. Given how well capital punishment works to deter crime in this country, we’re sure the Chinese food system will reform itself immediately.
